Case Study
Real-World Repair Diagnostic Documentation
A documentation-focused case study about translating hardware, OS, data, and account problems into clear customer-facing explanations and repair paths.
Overview
Repair documentation turns uncertain symptoms into a clear record of what was tested, what was found, and what the next best options are.
Problem
Customers often need clear explanations and proof when diagnosing hardware issues like screen failure, OS corruption, failed drives, email access problems, or migration issues.
My Role
I perform intake, diagnostics, repair notes, customer communication, and documentation that helps customers understand what happened and what to do next.
Tools Used
Process
- Capture the customer’s symptoms and device condition at intake.
- Run targeted tests based on the most likely failure categories.
- Document evidence, limits, and next-step recommendations.
- Translate the findings into customer-friendly language.
Challenges
Real devices rarely fail in neat categories. The work requires careful triage, customer empathy, and documentation that avoids overpromising.
Outcome
Created practical diagnostic notes and customer-facing explanations that translate technical findings into clear next steps.
What I Learned
Clear documentation is part of the repair. It protects the customer, helps the shop, and makes technical decisions easier to understand.
Screenshots / Artifacts Placeholder
Replace with sanitized screenshot - remove customer data, public IPs, emails, phone numbers, API keys, and private paths.
Future Improvements
- Add anonymized diagnostic-note examples.
- Create reusable templates for common repair categories.
- Document a before/after customer explanation pattern.
